July 25th: Wing Board (Wing 4.0m² + All-round for Wind)
“Let’s do Wing today.”
At the teacher’s words, my heart suddenly pounded.
I thought, “Finally, this day has come.”
Perhaps all the time I’d accumulated with Foil and SUP until now was for this very moment.
We're not using a Foil board,
but an all-round board for windsurfing with plenty of volume.
It has a dagger (center fin) in the middle,
which makes it easier to go upwind.
It's perfect for the first practice.
It offers more stability than SUP,
and I'm grateful to be able to stand on it with confidence.
First, a lecture on land.
Spread out the Wing, inflate it with air.
Receiving the wind, it immediately takes shape as if brought to life.
How to attach the straps, points to note,
and basic operations — how to catch the wind, how to release it.
Even though I was on land, my mind was already gliding on the sea.
And finally, to the sea.
Since it was the first time, the teacher, for safety,
attached a rope to the board for me.
When I moved a little, the teacher pulled the rope, bringing me back.
It was like walking a dog, and I couldn't help but laugh.
However, that method was truly rational,
allowing me to safely learn just the sensation of moving with the wind.
Like taking the very first step,
I tilted the Wing, letting it catch the wind.
In that instant, my body was smoothly pulled forward.
The sensation of cutting through the water. The best feeling.
However, the footing on the board is unstable,
and I can't control the Wing as I wish.
I move a little, then get pulled back by the rope.
It's safe, but still frustrating.
I want to freely catch the wind and go in any direction I like--
As that desire grows, impatience and expectation intertwine.
The wind is still gentle,
passing by, caressing my cheek as if testing my inexperience.
But certainly, one step, and from here the world has changed.
Finally, I have obtained wings.
Next, I will make this wind my true partner.

Something like this had appeared on the beach. It seems to be a paid toy. This is a sales promotion on Japan's largest scale.
