Hey, I’m Masa — The Guy Behind This Page

Hey, I’m Masa, the guy running this page.

In my day job, I’ve spent decades working as an engineer in energy and natural science.
I like to think I’ve contributed something meaningful to society.

But when it comes to wing foiling?

None of that experience helps. At all.

Back to the Ocean — After 30 Years

I actually used to windsurf.

When I tried to get back into it after almost 30 years, I remembered exactly what it was like:

  • Almost an hour to set up
  • Another hour to pack up
  • And on light-wind days… just waiting. Forever.

It’s honestly a pretty demanding sport.

But—

When you’re planing in strong wind?

That moment wipes out all the frustration.

That insane feeling of speed and freedom…
totally worth it.

Windsurfing gives you both:

the best moments—and the biggest hassle.

Then I Found Foiling

That’s when I discovered wind foiling.

And from there—

Wing foiling.

I started watching videos, and couldn’t believe what I was seeing.

  • Setup in about 10 minutes
  • Pack down in 10 minutes
  • Even in light wind, you lift off the water and ride at speed

I was like—

“Wait… this fixes everything.”

This Changes the Game

And it gets better.

With wing foiling, you can:

  • Ride waves more easily
  • Jump
  • Carve fast jibes
  • Ride in conditions that wouldn’t even work for windsurfing

Thirty years ago, there were things I just couldn’t reach with windsurfing.

Now—

With wing foiling, it actually feels possible.

Why Isn’t Everyone Doing This?

Honestly?

I couldn’t believe a sport this good even existed.

And even now, it still feels like not that many people have fully realized it yet.

So yeah—

I’ll admit it.

There’s a bit of a selfish thought in the back of my mind:

“If I get good now… I might be ahead of the curve.”

And that’s part of why I keep going out every week.

An Engineer’s Journey (With a Lot of Trial and Error)

This blog is basically:

an overly analytical beginner figuring things out the hard way.

If that sounds interesting—

stick around.

Through Winter — And What’s Next

I even got myself a semi-dry suit
and kept going all through winter.

Made it through the cold season.

And now—

I’m seriously looking forward to warmer days.

This is where things really start to get fun.
